Custom Portraits

My first foray into custom portraiture was as a live demonstration artist for a local museum, creating charcoal portraits of children. I was 14 years old. Hundreds of custom portraits later, I took a break from portraiture and then took the scenic route back - returning to portraiture with more compassion, whimsy, and a greater capacity to capture a felt sense of the portrait’s subjects. I would be honored to work with you to create a timeless and deeply personal piece of art.

To begin, please contact me to schedule a free 30-minute consultation, which can be done via Zoom or phone.

The Process

  • We will have a free 30-minute consultation to better understand what you are looking for and to answer any preliminary questions you may have. If you decide to proceed with the commission, I’ll email you a contract for you to review and sign and collect $500 non-refundable deposit. Then, you will provide me with reference photo(s) from which I will sketch out preliminary composition idea(s). Once you choose a final pose, composition, size, and medium, I will start work on your painting. I will also collect a second payment, equal to 50% of the total investment minus $500. Depending on the scope and flow of the work, I will send one or more work-in-progress updates, as well as photo(s) of the completed portrait, for your review. You are entitled to one reasonable revision of the final work. Once you approve the final painting and pay the remaining balance, I will deliver the final artwork (via shipping or local pickup).
